Meet Hundreds of Cats and Kittens, Bunnies, Small Dogs, and Exotic Animals — with Big Dreams of Forever Homes — on December 17 & 18
The Cat Fanciers’ Association, Dr. Elsey’s, and Royal Canin Sponsor NYC’s Largest Holiday Pet Adoption Event
New York, NY – Tuesday, November 15, 2011 – The Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals® will present its annual holiday pet adoption extravaganza, Whiskers in Wonderland®, on December 17 and 18 at the Metropolitan Pavilion, located at 125 West 18th Street in Manhattan.
What better way to celebrate the spirit of the season than to grant a homeless pet’s number-one wish — the gift of a forever home? In return, you’ll receive a gift of unconditional love that will last a lifetime!
Bring holiday cheer to these homeless animals and prepare to fall in love with one…or more! Twenty-six different animal rescue groups and shelters that participate in the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals will be represented at the event, ready and waiting to help potential adopters make responsible choices and find the perfect pet to fit their lifestyle. Since adopting a pet is a commitment for the life of the pet and involves the entire household, bring everyone along to meet you new furry family member.
“New Yorkers love their pets, and we have an abundance of wonderful animals — especially cats and kittens — awaiting loving homes,” says Jane Hoffman, Mayor’s Alliance President. “This event is extremely important, because it’s our single largest event focused on finding good homes for these deserving animals.”
Free gifts for adopters will be available, as well as free refreshments, holiday entertainment, and advice from pet experts. On Saturday only, Cary Nulton, DVM, will be available to answer questions about your pet’s health.
Whiskers in Wonderland is sponsored by Mayor’s Alliance longtime partner, The Cat Fanciers’ Association, along with Dr. Elsey’s Precious Cat Litters and Royal Canin. Representatives from other prominent pet brands also will be on hand for advice and sampling, including Stella & Chewy’s pet treats and food, and Sturdi Products pet carriers.
Looking for special holiday gift ideas? Photographer Melissa McDaniel will offer copies of her three extraordinary photo books for sale, including Rescued in America, Deaf Dogs, and her latest, Pit Bulls. Stop by the Alex and Ani Bangle Bar, where you can purchase a beautiful exclusive bangle that features the Mayor’s Alliance paw print logo charm. A portion of each book or bracelet sale will be donated to support lifesaving Mayor’s Alliance programs.
And there’s more! The Whiskers Fashion Show, hosted by Pet Fashion Designer, Animal Talent Manager, and Pet Stylist Ada Nieves, will feature dogs, cats, and even rabbits! Two shows each day, at 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. Explore the “beyond” with a pet psychic. Watch our guest artist create a portrait of your pet. Catch a photo of you and your pets with “Santa Maddie,” the six-foot Miniature Schnauzer mascot from Maddie’s Fund®. And enter to win exciting prizes in the Whiskers in Wonderland Raffle.
Admission is free to the two-day event. Pet adoption fees are determined by each rescue organization. Event times are Noon–6:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, and Sunday, December 18.

About the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals®
The Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, Inc., founded in 2002 and powered by Maddie’s Fund, The Pet Rescue Foundation, with support from the ASPCA, is a coalition of more than 150 animal rescue groups and shelters working with Animal Care & Control of New York City (AC&C) to end the killing of healthy and treatable cats and dogs at AC&C shelters. To achieve that goal, the Alliance, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, helps its Alliance Participating Organizations (APOs) work to their highest potential to increase pet adoptions and spay/neuter rates, with the goal of transforming New York City into a no-kill community by 2015. www.AnimalAllianceNYC.org
