Whiskers In Wonderland

Out of the Cage! (Holiday 2010)

Fall in Love at Whiskers In Wonderland This Weekend!

More than 400 cats and kittens — each with a wish to be home for the holidays — will be waiting to meet you this weekend at the Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 West 18th Street, in Manhattan!

Join us at our largest adoption event ever — Whiskers In Wonderland, on Saturday, December 18 (Noon–7:00 p.m.), and Sunday, December 19 (10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.).

Whiskers In Wonderland is presented by the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals and Best Friends Animal Society, with participation by the Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA). More than 30 Mayor's Alliance participating shelters and rescue groups will be represented.

Here's what's in store for you:

Adoptions!

More than 400 cats and kittens available for adoption from more than two-dozen rescue organizations

Rabbits also available for adoption from the Rabbit Rescue & Rehab, the New York City chapter of the House Rabbit Society

A sprinkling of "reindogs" for adoption appearing out front with "Santa Maddie"

Fun Activities and Information!

Cat agility demonstrations both days, hosted by CFA Agility Ringmaster/Trainer Jill Archibald. See professionally trained cats as well as novices demonstrate their talents. Jill will be available to give advice and explain how to run a cat through the agility ring.

Informational talks, presented by CFA Vice President and Allbreed Judge Joan Miller. Joan will speak on a variety of topics to help people appreciate and understand cats. Among the topics she'll cover are fundamental cat nature, how to choose a cat for your lifestyle, how to introduce a new cat into your household, origins of domestic cats and breed history, grooming, and basics of cat colors and patterns.

Appearances by 1010 WINS anchor and All for Animals producer Susan Richard (Saturday only); Music My Pet creator Tom Nazziola, who will sign copies of his CDs; and Carole Wilborne, The Cat Therapist (Sunday only).

Several veterinarians will be on hand to answer your questions about your kitty's health.

"Santa Maddie," the six-foot Miniature Schnauzer mascot for Maddie's Fund, will be waiting to meet you and the kids — a great photo op!

A Mayor's Alliance Wheels of Hope transport van, parked out front, will offer New Yorkers a rare opportunity to see up close how cats and dogs from Animal Care & Control of NYC (AC&C) ride in style on their way to other Mayor's Alliance participating shelters and rescue groups that will find them new homes.

A representative from the NYC Feral Cat Initiative will be available, with information and advice about how you can help NYC's feral and free-roaming cats.
