Linda's Feral Cat Assistance Creates a Bright Future for Feather

More than a year ago, Feather, a sorry-looking tiny white kitten, was in a cage at NYC's Animal Care & Control. Linda Bryant, founder of Linda's Feral Cat Assistance, an Alliance Participating Organization, took Feather into her care and immediately took her to The Humane Society of New York's hospital. Dr. Schmit examined Feather and discovered that both of her back legs were broken, one of her feet was de-gloved, and she was suffering from a severe upper respiratory infection.

The hospital treated the URI and the foot, and put one of Feather's legs in a cast. But the other leg required surgery. So Linda took Feather home and began fundraising to pay for the surgery. In no time, she raised the $2,000 needed for the operation.

Today Feather is living the high life on Park Avenue with her adoptive family.

In the meantime, Feather learned to drag herself around the apartment using only her front legs. When the cast was removed from her leg, it revealed a painful sore where it had rubbed the skin raw, and Feather went through painful applications of antibiotic cream. However, the wound healed and when Feather was three months old, Linda took her to Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists, where Dr. Pacchiana performed surgery to re-set the other leg. Following the successful surgery, Feather recuperated in Linda's care. During that time she bloomed into a beautiful girl, and several months later was adopted into a loving home with three other cats on Manhattan's fashionable Park Avenue.
