Note: Due to Sunday night’s rain-out, the schedule for Bark in the Park on Monday has been slightly changed. 6:00 p.m.: Make-up innings of Sunday’s night’s game. 7:30 p.m.: Ceremonial first pitch by the Maddie’s Fund mascot. 8:00 p.m.: Seven-inning game begins.

New York, NY – Monday, August 15, 2011 – With baseball season in full swing, the Brooklyn Cyclones are once again inviting animal-loving New Yorkers to bring their dogs to the annual Bark in the Park baseball game on Monday, August 22, at MCU Park in Coney Island. Sponsored by the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals®, Maddie’s Fund, the Pet Rescue Foundation®, and TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®, Bark in the Park will provide Cyclones fans and their canine friends with an exciting dog’s day of fun as the Cyclones take on the Tri-City Valley Cats.

As in previous years, Bark in the Park will offer dog and cat adoptions from Brooklyn-based Sean Casey Animal Rescue and great photo ops for the kids with “Maddie,” the six-foot Miniature Schnauzer mascot from Maddie’s Fund. And this year’s event will introduce some exciting new features!

With TD Bank as a sponsor, the stadium’s “WOW Zone” will be transformed into the “BOW-WOW Zone,” offering two-legged and four-legged fans “Doggie Bags” filled with dog bandanas and other goodies. Through another new event highlight, the Puppy Paparazzi fans can post photos of their dogs dressed in Cyclones gear on the Brooklyn Cyclones’ Facebook page for a chance to win the honor of throwing one of two ceremonial first pitches! Fans who think they have the best dressed pups can also post their pictures on Facebook. Both these Fido Fashionista and Puppy Paparazzi pictures will be shown on the stadium’s jumbotron throughout the game.

Plus, in an entertaining, role-reversing contest, several dog owners will have the chance to come onto the field to act the part of the dog and attempt to complete tricks such as fetch and rolling over. We all think it looks easy when a dog catches a frisbee in his mouth, now let’s see if humans can do it too!

The dogs and cats for adoption from Sean Casey Animal Rescue, a Mayor’s Alliance participating organization, will be waiting to meet new adopters from 4:00–8:00 p.m. in front of MCU Park on Surf Avenue on a mobile adoption unit provided by North Shore Animal League America.

The game begins at 7:00 p.m., but ticket holders and others interested in adopting a pet are encouraged to arrive early. Watch the Maddie’s Fund mascot fire up the crowds, pose for photos, and toss out the ceremonial first pitch at 6:30 p.m. The bleacher section of the stadium will be reserved for those who bring their pooches to the game.

Pet-parents, be on the lookout for the Brooklyn Cyclones Pooch Patrol, which will be out and about in local dog parks over the next week to give away pairs of free tickets to lucky dog owners for Bark in the Park, courtesy of the Mayor’s Alliance and TD Bank.

The Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, Inc., founded in 2002 and powered by Maddie’s Fund, The Pet Rescue Foundation, with support from the ASPCA, is a coalition of more than 150 animal rescue groups and shelters working with Animal Care & Control of New York City (AC&C) to end the killing of healthy and treatable cats and dogs at AC&C shelters. To achieve that goal, the Alliance, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, helps its Alliance Participating Organizations (APOs) work to their highest potential to increase pet adoptions and spay/neuter rates, with the goal of transforming New York City into a no-kill community by 2015. www.AnimalAllianceNYC.org

Maddie’s Fund, The Pet Rescue Foundation, is a family foundation funded by Workday and PeopleSoft Founder Dave Duffield and his wife, Cheryl. Maddie’s Fund is helping to create a no-kill nation where all healthy and treatable shelter dogs and cats are guaranteed a loving home. To achieve this goal, Maddie’s Fund is investing its resources in building community collaborations where animal welfare organizations come together to develop successful models of lifesaving; in veterinary colleges to help shelter medicine become part of the veterinary curriculum; and in the implementation of a national strategy to promote accountability and transparency in animal shelter operations.
