About the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals

The Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals, Inc., founded in 2002 and powered by Maddie's Fund, The Pet Rescue Foundation, with support from the ASPCA, is a coalition of more than 150 animal rescue groups and shelters working with Animal Care & Control of New York City (AC&C) to end the killing of healthy and treatable cats and dogs at AC&C shelters. To achieve that goal, the Alliance, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, helps its Alliance Participating Organizations (APOs) work to their highest potential to increase pet adoptions and spay/neuter rates, with the goal of transforming New York City into a no-kill community by 2015.

Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals Rescue Organizations Get Generous Pet Food Donation from Stella & Chewy's®

New York, NY – Tuesday, July 27, 2010 – Stella & Chewy's, a pet food company dedicated to creating pure, minimally processed, natural food for animals, has generously donated dog treats valued at more than $10,000 to three animal rescue organizations that participate in the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals. Dog Habitat Rescue and Sean Casey Animal Rescue in Brooklyn, and the Animal Haven shelter/adoption center in Manhattan, each received a generous supply of Carnivore Crunch™ all-meat treats early last week.

As the economy continues to lag, donations to animal shelters and rescue groups are helping these non-profit organizations continue their vital work in saving the lives of thousands of homeless pets in New York City. The Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals, a coalition of more than 150 animal-rescue groups and shelters, is at the forefront of this effort, leading a collaborative effort to end the killing of healthy and treatable cats and dogs at New York City's Animal Care & Control shelters by 2015.

Stella & Chewy's is committed not only to making a difference in the quality of life for furry family members, but also to save the lives of less fortunate dogs and cats who are awaiting new homes. This commitment involves donating a percentage of its annual profits and products to animal rescue groups and animal shelters nationwide.

"Stella & Chewy's has been supportive of our efforts at Dog Habitat Rescue since the first day we pulled a dog from the Animal Care & Control shelter in NYC to find her a home," says Jay Lombard of Dog Habitat Rescue. "They've donated hundreds of pounds of all-natural, raw food so that all of our rescue dogs get daily nutritious meals to help them in the rehabilitation process. We were thrilled to receive this additional donation of dog treats that our staff and volunteers could use as rewards and incentives for training whether it's walking on the leash or learning to 'sit.' The treats are a huge bonus to the everyday work we do with these special pups."

The Mayor's Alliance is grateful to Stella & Chewy's for its support of Alliance participating organizations and invites other companies to support this community collaboration by donating to their local rescue groups and shelters, including Animal Care & Control of NYC. Companies interested in donating product or funds to the effort can contact the Mayor's Alliance at info@AnimalAllianceNYC.org.
