Pet Adoption Festival Brings Shelter Animals to the People in Brooklyn, August 1

Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals invites big-hearted Brooklynites to come out and adopt at this summer's Pet Adoption Festival in Prospect Park

NEW YORK, NY – Thursday, July 30, 2009 – On Saturday, August 1, the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals will hold a Pet Adoption Festival in Prospect Park from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (rain or shine) to find welcoming homes for some of New York City's most lovable cats and dogs. Featured at the day-long event are:

•

Dogs and cats for adoption from Sean Casey Animal Rescue (www.scarnyc.org) and Animal Care & Control of NYC (www.nycacc.org) — two Mayor's Alliance participating rescue organizations;

•

Low-cost ($25) microchipping for dogs and cats — one of the best precautions a pet owner can take to ensure his or her lost dog or cat can be returned;

•

Demonstrations of TTouch and other techniques for improving pets' well-being will be provided by Tavi and Friends (www.taviandfriends.org), an Alliance Participating Organization (APO) that specializes in the care of special needs animals;

•

A representative from StreetZaps (www.StreetZaps.org) will provide information to pet owners about the risks or — and ways to avoid — contact voltage shocks on city streets;

•

The lovable six-foot Miniature Schnauzer mascot from Maddie's Fund, The Pet Rescue Foundation (a co-sponsor of the event), will pose for photos with kids and pets from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Bring your camera.

The festival will be held near Bartel Pritchard Circle, located at the intersection of Prospect Park West and 15th Street.

The Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals stages numerous adoption events every weekend throughout New York City. For more information about upcoming events, please visit the Mayor's Alliance website at www.AnimalAllianceNYC.org.
