Out of the Cage!

July 2010

Despite the record-breaking heat this summer, adoptions here in New York City are humming along. Apparently New Yorkers have discovered that the "cool" thing to do is to adopt a shelter animal! Thanks to air-conditioned mobile adoption units provided by Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals member North Shore Animal League America to fellow Alliance Participating Organizations (APOs), dogs and cats for adoption from numerous Alliance groups are making appearances every weekend around the city.

Have you ever considered adopting a blind or deaf dog? After reading our feature in this issue about Max, Chumani, and Snow, you just might give it some thought.

You'll also read about how some New York City school children are supporting the Mayor's Alliance in our efforts to save lives at our city shelters. And you'll hear from Julie Bank, the new Executive Director at Animal Care & Control of NYC, as she writes about the collaborative efforts of the Mayor's Alliance and its participating shelters and rescue groups, including AC&C.

Don't forget to check out our listing of upcoming events in the remaining weeks of summer. There are still plenty of opportunities for you to find your new best friend at a Mayor's Alliance adoption event.

We always appreciate hearing from our readers, so please feel free to e-mail us at enews@AnimalAllianceNYC.org with questions or comments about our e-newsletter.

Best wishes,
