Harnessing the power of the media is one important way the Mayor's Alliance is working to inform and involve New Yorkers in its efforts to save animals' lives. And these efforts are getting results.

For example, am New York ran a cover story on July 13 reporting on the threat posed by rising gas prices to limit the Mayor's Alliance Transport Van Program. The following day, when the newspaper ran another cover story on the ASPCA's challenge to New Yorkers to match its $10,000 contribution to keep the Mayor's Alliance van running at full capacity, donations began pouring in. (Click here to see related article in this issue of Out of the Cage!)

Gaining media attention is crucial to getting our messages out to all New Yorkers. And you can help ensure that newspapers, television stations, and other media continue to provide this valuable coverage. Each time you read an article or watch a newscast that reports on issues related to animal adoption, fostering, spay/neuter, or any of the efforts being made by the Mayor's Alliance and its 100-plus participating organizations, take a moment to send an e-mail or make a phone call to the publication or network that covered the story and express your appreciation for the coverage. Reader and viewer response is important to the media, and your efforts can help to ensure that those kinds of stories continue to appear.

And be sure to check The Alliance in the News section of the Mayor's Alliance website regularly for media listings.
