Young NYC Philanthropists Found "TAILS"
— a New Fundraising Group Working with the Mayor's Alliance
for NYC's Animals
TAILS
kicks off with May 27 Fundraising Event
NEW YORK, NY – Tuesday, May 26, 2009 –
The Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals announces its partnership
with an exciting new philanthropic group — TAILS
(Toward Animals in Loving Spaces) of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's
Animals. Founded by young New York philanthropists, TAILS will
work with the Mayor's Alliance to help achieve its goal of making
NYC a no-kill city by 2015. TAILS' kick-off fundraiser, Stray
Station, takes place on May 27th at the Louis K. Meisel Gallery
in NYC.
TAILS was founded by a group of young, socially
active New Yorkers who have known each other since childhood and
follow a long tradition of philanthropy by their families. All under
30 years of age, founders include Maximillian and Larissa Whitney,
Natalia Rozenholc, Kingsley and Elizabeth Woolworth, and Anna Meisel.
In a challenging economic climate, this kind of initiative by young
New Yorkers, reaching out to their social and professional networks,
marks an exciting new direction in philanthropy.
"We all grew up together and pets were an important
part of our family life. Current challenges with animal rescue and
adoption in our home city of New York brought us together once again
to jointly make a real difference for New York's dogs and cats,"
said Max Whitney.
TAILS of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals
intends to act as an advocate for homeless New York City animals
and seeks to create a thriving network of compassionate businesses
and animal lovers in the community by dedicating its efforts to
fundraising, raising awareness about homeless animals, and educating
the public to increase spay/neuter, volunteering, fostering, and
microchipping of pets.
To kick-off this new group and fund a citywide subway
advertising campaign to celebrate the 2009
New York Week for the Animals, TAILS of the Mayor's Alliance
for NYC's Animals will host a cocktail party fundraiser, Stray
Station, on Wednesday, May 27, from 7:00–10:00 p.m. at
the Louis K. Meisel Gallery. Animal Haven will bring adorable dogs
available for adoption. For ticket prices and sponsorship opportunities,
visit the TAILS website.
"We are excited to welcome such an innovative
and inspiring group of animal advocates to the Mayor's Alliance
and the New York City community," states Jane Hoffman, president
of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals. "Together, our efforts
will energize the initiatives of the Alliance and its 160 Alliance
Participating Organizations towards the day when no healthy or treatable
cat or dog is killed merely because he or she does not have a home."
