Viewers can support dog adoption and the Picasso
Veterinary Fund of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals by shopping
at the Rachael Ray Charitable Shop on FetchDog.com
Portland, Maine – October 21, 2008 –
Glenn Close, actress and co-founder of FetchDog,
an on-line resource for dog lovers, today appeared on the Rachael
Ray Show to discuss her love for dogs with Rachel Ray along
with their mutual determination to promote both dog fostering and
dog adoption as means of saving the many canines who are abandoned
across the country.
Together Ray and Close have created the Rachael
Ray Charitable Shop on FetchDog.com featuring design-award-winning
dog bowls and earth friendly dog toys, among other personally selected
products by Ray. When shoppers make a purchase from Ray's page,
6 percent of the proceeds are donated to the Picasso Veterinary
Fund of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals.
"The Alliance is thrilled with the relationship
we are developing with Glenn Close and FetchDog.com," says
Jane Hoffman, President of the Mayor's Alliance. "Glenn's efforts
to make people aware of the wonderful shelter animals just waiting
for homes through her Lively Licks blog from FetchDog.com and her
visits to the New York Animal Care & Control shelter, which
aired on the hugely popular Rachael
Ray Show was an amazing gift from both these very talented
ladies."
As part of the segment, Close experienced the process
of fostering a dog in need of adoption, Sweet Pea (a female Vizsla/Pit
Bull mix). She also covered issues involved in fostering a dog to
raise awareness during American Humane's Adopt-A-Dog
Month. Support for her fostering mission came from the Picasso
Veterinary Fund of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals. Additional
support came from New York Animal Care & Control and the MuttShack
of Brooklyn.
Glenn launched the Charitable Shops earlier this
year to allow visitors a chance to name and support a favorite animal
charity through FetchDog purchases. Rachel Ray's Shop is one
of several famous dog-lovers featured on Glenn's blog, Lively
Licks: Profiles of Dogs and Their People, which features
interviews with her friends and their dogs, like Ted Danson and
Mary Steenburgen (whose Charitable Shop benefits Little Angels Pug
Rescue) and Debra Messing and Dan Zelman (whose beneficiary is Animal
Rescue New Orleans).
"We are very excited about the Charitable Shops
and the benefit these animal charities will receive as a result,"
said Gretchen Kruysman, CEO of FetchDog. "This is feel-good
shopping at its best. Shoppers get great products for their dogs
and support a worthy cause at the same time."
"And, as one reader commented about Glenn's
latest blog: 'What connects us--the famous and the not--is our love
for our animals.'"
