St. Paul the Apostle Church to Host Mayor's Alliance/Maddie's
Pet Adoption Festival
New York, NY Wednesday, March 29, 2006
New Yorkers looking to put a little more love in their lives —
in the form of a devoted pet – won't want to miss the upcoming
pet adoption event on Saturday, April 1, at St. Paul the Apostle
Church on Columbus Avenue at 60th Street, between 11 a.m and 4 p.m.
Dozens of darling and dashing Little New Yorkers,
including cats, dogs and, yes, even rabbits from more than 15 area
animal shelters and rescue groups, will be wiggling and wagging
their way into the hearts of New Yorkers who are looking to add
a family member or two this spring. All of the groups bringing animals
to the event, including the ASPCA, Animal Haven Shelter, Bide-a-Wee,
and NYC's Animal Care & Control, are members of the Mayor's
Alliance for NYC's Animals — a coalition of more than 100
animal shelters and rescue groups that are working with the City
of New York to transform New York City into a no-kill community.
New adopters and current pet owners who want to
have their dogs or cats microchipped by a veterinarian can take
advantage of a special low price of only $25 for each cat or dog
(cash or check only). Microchipping is one of the best ways to ensure
that if a pet becomes lost, he or she can be returned home.
Festival-goers also will have the opportunity to
get their pet-related questions answered by a veterinarian, a groomer,
and an animal trainer, who will be on-handat the event. And especially
for the kids, Maddie, the human-size Miniature Schnauzer mascot
for Maddie's Fund, will be available for hugs and photos.
The event is hosted by the Confirmation Class of
St. Paul the Apostle Church. The children enrolled in the class
— aged 12 to 14 – will help promote and stage the event.
This event is the first in a series of Pet
Adoption Festivals sponsored by the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's
Animals and Maddie's Fund taking place in New York City throughout
2006. The goal: to bring animals to the people and increase pet
adoptions from shelters and rescue groups, especially among families
and individuals who might be reluctant to visit an animal shelter.

The Mayor's Alliance
for NYC's Animals, Inc., founded in 2002 and powered
by Maddie's Fund, is a coalition
of more than 100 animal rescue groups and shelters that are working
with the City of New York to find homes for every cat and dog in
the city who needs one. For more information about the Mayor's Alliance

Maddie's
Fund, also known as The Pet Rescue Foundation, is
a $240 million family foundation established in 1999 to help communities
throughout the U.S. eliminate the unnecessary killing of healthy
and treatable homeless animals merely because they do not have homes.
The foundation was created by Dave Duffield, founder and Board Chairman
of the Silicon Valley-based software giant PeopleSoft, and his wife,
Cheryl, in honor of the beloved family Miniature Schnauzer, Maddie,
who died in 1997. For more information about Maddie's Fund, please
