Meow
Mix Offers 250 People a Free Year of Cat Food to Help Spur Cat Adoptions
in New York
Will Give a One-Year Supply to People Who Adopt from Mayor's Alliance
for NYC's Animals Participating Organizations
New York, NY June 7, 2005 In response
to New York City's commitment to end the killing of adoptable cats
simply because they do not have a home, The Meow Mix Company is
taking steps to encourage cat adoptions by donating food to people
who adopt a cat from participating NYC animal shelters and rescue
groups. The announcement comes following recent reports that Animal
Care and Control of NYC may be forced to increase the number of
cats euthanized due to a surge in their shelters' population.
Between now and August 31st, the first 250 people
who adopt a cat from any animal shelter or rescue group within the
city's five boroughs that is a member of the Mayor's
Alliance for NYC's Animals will receive a free one-year supply
of Meow Mix. Adopters simply mail a copy of their adoption contract
to Meow Mix's corporate office, and they will receive the
year's worth of free coupons.
The 85-plus participating organizations of the Mayor's
Alliance for NYC's Animals, which include Animal Care &
Control of NYC, are working toward the day when no New York City
cat or dog is killed simply because he or she does not have a home.
Increasing adoptions from shelters and rescue groups is a key element
in achieving that No-Kill goal.
"As a cat owner myself, it breaks my heart
to see cats being euthanized because they can't find a loving home,"
said Richard Thompson, CEO and Top Cat of The Meow Mix Company.
"We're hoping that by calling attention to this problem and
providing an added incentive for people to adopt, we can help save
lives."
People interested in adopting cats from a Mayor's
Alliance member organization and taking advantage of Meow Mix's
special offer can locate a participating shelter or rescue group,
including Animal Care & Control of NYC, by visiting www.meowmix.com/nycshelters.
