Pet Adoption Festival Coming to Clove Lakes Park

New York, NY – Monday, May 23, 2005 – Staten Island's Clove Lakes Park will be the place to be on Saturday, June 4th for pet-lovers looking to adopt a furry little New Yorker!

Dozens of darling and dashing cats and dogs, including pure-breeds, from area animal shelters and rescue groups will be awaiting their new adoptive families. Among the groups lined up to show animals at the event are the ASPCA, Bobbi and the Strays, The Husky House NYC, Linda's Feral Cat Assistance (they're friendly!), Little Shelter, NYC Animal Care & Control, NYC Siamese Rescue, P.L.U.T.O. Rescue of Richmond County, and Staten Island Council for Animal Welfare — all of which are members of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals.

The event also will feature a microchipping clinic where anyone who wants to have their pet microchipped can stop by and, for a small fee, have the procedure done by a veterinarian. Microchipping is one of the best ways to ensure that if a pet becomes lost, he or she can be returned home.

Also on hand at the event will be a veterinarian, animal trainer, and groomer to answer questions and offer advice to people with pets, and those considering adopting one. The event will run from 12 noon to 5 pm near the field house and playground, close to the entrance at Clove Road and Victory Boulevard.

The Clove Lakes Park event is one in a series of multi-group Pet Adoption Festivals sponsored by the Mayor's Alliance that will take place around New York City from now through autumn. The goal: to bring animals to the people and increase pet adoptions from shelters and rescue groups, especially among families and individuals who might be reluctant to visit an animal shelter. A listing of all upcoming Mayor's Alliance Pet Adoption Festivals can be found at www.AnimalAllianceNYC.org.

Adopt a Little New Yorker Today!

The Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals, Inc., founded in 2002 and powered by Maddie's Fund, is a coalition of 85 animal rescue groups and shelters that are working with the City of New York to find homes for every cat and dog in the city who needs one. For more information about the Mayor's Alliance and its Participating Organizations, please visit the Alliance web site at www.AnimalAllianceNYC.org.

Maddie's Fund, also known as the Pet Rescue Foundation, is a $240 million family foundation established in 1999 to help communities throughout the U.S. eliminate the unnecessary killing of healthy and treatable homeless animals merely because they do not have homes. The foundation was created by Dave Duffield, founder and Board Chairman of the Silicon Valley-based software giant PeopleSoft, and his wife, Cheryl, in honor of the beloved family Miniature Schnauzer, Maddie, who died in 1997.
