"Adopt a Little New Yorker Today!" Coming
to a Park Near You
New York, NY Saturday, June 14, 2003
Each of the five boroughs of New York City will be welcoming its
own major dog and cat adoption event over the next few months as
a result of the groundbreaking partnership among the Mayor's Alliance
for NYC's Animals, Inc., its affiliated organizations, and the City
of New York. People from all over the City will have the opportunity
to meet some of the wonderful New York dogs and cats currently available
for the position of best friend.
The kick-off event, hosted by P.L.U.T.O. Rescue
of Richmond County, will be in Staten Island's beautiful Clove Lakes Park on June 28, 2003. Next, the very special dogs and cats of the
Center for Animal Care and Control, along with cats and dogs from
several other Alliance
rescue groups and shelters, will be introduced at the Central
Park's Bandshell on July 26. Soon to follow will be events in Queens'
Cunningham Park (August 16) and Forest Park (September 13) hosted
by Animal Haven, Brooklyn's Prospect Park (October 11) hosted
by BARC Shelter, and finally in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
All events will run from Noon to 4 p.m.
Some of these very special little New Yorkers will
include:
| • |
Completely black dogs and
cats, specially selected to match the wardrobe of the most
fashionable New Yorker! |
| • |
Feline New Yorkers of every
stripe! (Orange, grey, and even some tabbies!) |
| • |
A large and varied selection
of loving and peaceable St. Francis Terriers (a.k.a. pit bulls)! |
| • |
Pure breeds, mystery breeds, and a few very
special little New Yorkers with no breeding whatsoever! |
| • |
Coney Island dogs! |
Planned activities:
| • |
Parks & Recreation's Urban
Park Rangers will be available to answer all your questions
about urban wildlife and offer advice on the best ways to
use the parks with a dog |
| • |
For children — animal face
painting, animal tattoos (washable!), animal balloons |
| • |
A strolling barbershop quartet
will offer tunes |
| • |
A pet psychic will be on hand so that anyone
can find out what his or her current dog is thinking (Is he
lonely? Does she want a new sister or brother? Is he a closet
cat lover?) Or potential adopters can use the latest spirit
techniques to find their perfectly compatible new best friend! |
The Mayor's Alliance
