Meet Sam, the First Picasso Veterinary Fund Recipient!
October 2003
Sam was hit by a car in the Bronx in October 2003
and taken to Animal
Care & Control of NYC with two very badly broken legs. Fortunately
one of the adoption counselors knew to call the Mayor's
Alliance for NYC's Animals, and they were able to get a veterinarian
to take Sam in. They were able to get a top orthopedic surgeon to
do the operation for a fraction of the cost. Sam recuperated at
the vet clinic, confined to a crate for the most part because of
the severity of the breaks (which required a six-hour operation
and the insertion of a plate and a pin). Sam made a full recovery
and is a happy active young dog ready to run and play on four good
legs.
Sam was hit by a car in October
2003 and suffered two broken legs. Thanks to the Picasso
Veterniary Fund, Sam made a full recovery!
If not for the existence of the Picasso Veterinary
Fund started by Mary Tyler Moore and Bernadette Peters at BROADWAY
BARKS! in July 2003, and the existence of the Mayor's Alliance
for NYC's Animals and its Participating
Organizations that have created a new cooperative spirit in
NYC, the end of this story would be very different.
