Finch Saved from the Street, Can He Fetch a New Home?

Picasso Veterinary Fund in Action! (August 2009)

Last month, while millions of Americans were celebrating Independence Day, one caring New York City couple marked the day by rescuing Finch. The sweet 10-month-old American Bulldog mix was tied to a light pole when they found him, and so they took him home and filed a found dog report with Animal Care & Control of NYC (AC&C).

Although the couple was not able to keep Finch permanently, they cared enough to get him off the street for the long weekend and start him on his journey toward a new home. Ordinarily, an abandoned dog like Finch would be taken in at AC&C, but because Finch was severely malnourished and needed immediate medical attention, the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals accepted the young orphan into its Picasso Veterinary Fund program.

Charming, playful Finch has regained weight, learned to sit and lie down on command, and is now looking for a home.

The Mayor's Alliance arranged for Finch to be examined and treated at ABC Animal Hospital, one of its Picasso Veterinary Fund partner hospitals, where he was heartworm tested, de-wormed, vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped. Then Finch was placed into a temporary foster home where he quickly recovered and regained most of his original weight. Now Finch is ready for the next step in his journey — a permanent home!

If you'd like to welcome Finch as a member of your family, let us know by e-mailing picasso@AnimalAllianceNYC.org. Finch loves tennis balls and other toys, and is learning to fetch. He already has learned to "sit" and "lie down" on command. Finch is a charming dog, as friendly as can be. To view more photos of Finch, and a cool video where he shows off his great energy, visit his Petfinder profile page.

Not ready to adopt right now? Then why not make a tax-deductible donation to the Picasso Veterinary Fund and help us give more Little New Yorkers like Finch the second chances they deserve. It's easy — just click here! Finch would definitely appreciate it, and so would plenty of his buddies who will be helped by your generous donation.
