NYCFCI & ASPCA Team Up to Present Workshop on Neighbor Relations & Public Outreach for TNR/Feral Cats

Community efforts on behalf of free-roaming and feral cats got a shot in the arm on November 9 when the NYCFCI and the ASPCA teamed up to present an important learning opportunity at the ASPCA's midtown offices — a workshop entitled Neighbor Relations & Public Outreach for TNR/Feral Cats. Jesse Oldham, Senior Administrative Director, Community Outreach, ASPCA, reprised an expanded edition of the workshop she developed and presented at last December's Feral Cat Caretaker Bootcamp! conference.

For the two-hour program, Jesse elucidated the topics with a PowerPoint presentation, followed by role-playing exercises involving volunteers from the audience. The exercises drew upon real-life issues and complaints from the participants' own colonies and communities.

Workshop participants from throughout New York City and neighboring Long Island and New Jersey learned how to approach others about feral cats in their communities, how to speak to people who approach feral cat colony caretakers, and what resources are available to help educate your community about how to help feral cats through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR).

This valuable workshop will be repeated in 2010, so please watch our website for future dates.
