NYCFCI Advanced Trapping Techniques Workshop Draws Enthusiastic Audience On October 27, instructors from three of New York City's most experienced TNR organizations demonstrated advanced trapping techniques to an eager group of caretakers and trappers representing all five boroughs of NYC, as well as Long Island and New Jersey. The workshop was hosted by the ASPCA at its midtown offices. Workshop attendees learned how to trap successfully in freezing weather, how to trap a mother cat and all of her kittens, and how to use a drop trap. For the drop trap lecture and hands-on demonstration, attendees were grouped into two sections, with Carole McLoughlin of Le Cats on the Water instructing one section, and Nancy Fahnestock and Carole Milker of CSM Stray Foundation facilitating the other section. After being instructed in the use of a drop trap, each participant had the opportunity to practice the techniques and share their own anecdotal tips based on their experiences. Mike Phillips, President of Urban Cat League, led the second half of the workshop with a demonstration of methods and items used for successfully trapping in bitter cold weather. Next, he demonstrated the "bottle and string" trick and other methods that can be used to successfully trap a mother and all of her kittens.
