Workshop: "Trap-Neuter-Return: How to Manage a Feral Cat Colony"

1:00–4:00 p.m.

ASPCA, 424 East 92nd Street, 5th Floor, Manhattan

Come learn how to care for the feral and stray cats in your community and make use of the many resources now available to assist you. All steps in setting up a managed colony will be covered, including establishing good community relations, feeding, building and placing shelters, arranging vet care, finding recovery space, safely handling feral cats, and trapping (with an emphasis on conducting a mass-trapping of an entire feral colony at once). All workshop attendees will become TNR certified, and NYC residents will gain access to no-cost spay/neuter and trap rental. Join the 2,000+ caretakers trained to date!

Course Fee: A non-refundable $15 course fee and advance registration are required.

NYC Feral Cat Initiative Town Hall Meeting

Hear how the Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) organizations work with the animal shelters and rescue groups to address New York City's feral cat population through TNR, and learn how you can be a part of the effort in your own community.

Workshop: "Advanced Trapping Techniques"

Tuesday October 27, 2009

6:30–8:30 p.m.

ASPCA, 520 Eighth Avenue (between 36th and 37th Streets), Manhattan

Learn from some of New York City's most experienced trappers about the tips and tricks to successfully using a drop-trap, trapping all the kittens in a litter, and trapping in winter weather and at night. Featuring hands-on demonstrations. Instructors are Nancy Fahnestock (CSM Stray Foundation), Carol McLoughlin (Le Cats on the Water), and Mike Phillips (Urban Cat League).

Workshop: "Neighbor Relations"

Monday November 9, 2009

6:30–9:00 p.m.

ASPCA, 520 Eighth Avenue (between 36th and 37th Streets), Manhattan

Neighbor Relations is a crucial part of good colony management. Through role-play and going over the steps involved, learn how to establish a good relationship with your colony's neighbors, handle problems and complaints that arise, and how to avoid potential problems before they surface.The instructor is Jesse Oldham (ASPCA).
