Want to give a gift this year that carries extra
impact for the animals? We have several suggestions you might consider.
2009 Calendars
A calendar
featuring great photos of rescued pets makes an excellent holiday
or year-end gift.
Many Mayor's Alliance Participating Organizations
(APOs) offer calendars
for sale to raise funds for their organizations' operations.
Purchase a calendar (or a few!) from an APO, and you'll not only
get a great gift to give friends or family members, but you'll also
be contributing to the care of homeless animals.
Great New Books for Kids Young and Old
Demo:
The Story of a Junkyard Dog
Demo: The Story of a Junkyard Dog, by Jon
Bozak, with illustrations by Scott Brun, is a wonderful book that
will make a great gift for a child or an adult, while spreading
a positive message for Pit Bulls everywhere. Order
a copy before the end of the year and save on the purchase price
(book prices are dropped to $12.95), and each purchase enters the
buyer into a raffle to win $100, a copy of Demo, or the chance
to choose the rescue/shelter to which Demo's creators will donate
$200 of Demo merchandise.
All books sold from the website are autographed
and pawtographed as well. You can still choose to purchase the book
at any bookstore across the country, but only books sold at www.demo-dog.com
are eligible for the contest.
Broadway
Barks
Written by actress and animal welfare activist Bernadette
Peters and illustrated by Liz Murphy, Broadway
Barks is a warm and appealing story of a homeless little
dog who one day sees a lady reading in a New York City park and
decides to follow her — all the way to a place where he might
become a star! This beautiful package includes a jacket with foil
touches as well as an exclusive CD featuring a reading of the story
and an original song written and sung by Bernadette Peters. You
can order
your copy on Amazon.com. Proceeds benefit Broadway Barks, a
generous supporter of Mayor's Alliance APOs and programs.
Give
the Gift of Hope
Making a donation or purchasing a gift item from
your favorite animal
shelter or rescue group is a great way to give.
If you have a favorite shelter
or rescue group you like to support, check out its website
and see what ideas for gift-giving are available. Or make a donation
to the organization to help it continue its life-saving work. During
these challenging economic times, donations are needed more than
ever, and your gift will be greatly appreciated.
Supporting
Mayor's Alliance programs lets you make a difference all year-long.
Consider making a life-saving donation to the Mayor's
Alliance for NYC's Animals. Your donation will be put directly to
work for NYC's homeless dogs and cats — helping them to move
closer to a new home and a far happier New Year. If you'd like,
you can specify that the gift be donated to a specific Mayor's Alliance
program, such as the Picasso
Veterinary Fund, Wheels
of Hope transport program, or NYC
Feral Cat Initiative. You can either mail a check, payable to
Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals, to Mayor's Alliance for
NYC's Animals, 244 Fifth Avenue, Suite R290, New York, NY 10001-7604.
Or you can make
a convenient online donation using your credit card. For a gift
that keeps giving all year, please indicate that you'd like to make
a recurring donation under "Donation Preferences." These
recurring donations are a much-appreciated source of ongoing support
for our work.
