Mayor's Alliance Strength Training
sessions help APOs work smarter and expand capacity. |
|
This fall, Alliance Participating Organizations
(APOs) will have the opportunity to participate in special training
sessions that can help them streamline and enhance their efforts
in three important areas: managing recordkeeping of the animals
in their care, promoting their animals more effectively on the Internet,
and preparing their shelter or rescue group for a disaster.
On October 7, Steve Zeidman, Chief Technology Officer
for Pethealth, Inc., and former Director of Information Technology
for NYC's Animal Care & Control, will conduct an informational
session to introduce APO representatives to PetPoint,
the company's comprehensive web-based animal management program
that can save shelters and rescue groups time and money. Among the
program's many beneficial features are the ability to automatically
update an organization's online adoptable animal listings in real
time, including pictures, stories, and profiles, and also the ability
to facilitate Maddie's Fund reporting.
Two weeks later, October 21, Sara Lippincott, Shelter
Outreach Manager for Petfinder,
will conduct a strategy session to help APOs more effectively promote
pet adoptions on the Internet. Sara will describe resources offered
by Petfinder as well as tips to assist organizations in promoting
animals for adoption on their own websites and other venues.
In November, APOs will have the opportunity learn
how to prepare their shelter or rescue group for a disaster. The
ASPCA's Director of Disaster Response, Allison Cardona, will conduct
a hands-on workshop that focuses on evacuation plans and continuity
of operations in the event of a disaster or other incident. This
session was originally scheduled for September, but is being rescheduled
(with new date to be announced) because Allison was called away
to assist in animal rescue operations resulting from Hurricane Ike!
Incidentally, the ASPCA, the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals
and Animal Care & Control are among the New York City-based
animal organizations that participate in the Animal Planning Task
Force of NYC's Office of Emergency Management's strategic planning
for emergencies involving animals in New York City.
Helping Alliance member shelters and rescue groups
expand their capacities by working smarter is one of the core initiatives
set forth in the Mayor's Alliance's 10-year strategic plan. We encourage
APOs to participate in these trainings, which we offer free of charge
and by invitation only. E-mail invitations will be distributed soon
to all APOs for our upcoming sessions. If you have questions, please
e-mail us at info@AnimalAllianceNYC.org.
