"Gimme Shelter: Rock & Rescue NYC"
Benefit Set for October 6
Animal lovers and rock music aficionados will rub
shoulders on October 6 when Rational Animal's eagerly awaited third
annual Gimme
Shelter: Rock & Rescue NYC benefit concert shakes the rafters
at the Highline Ballroom at 371 West 16th Street in Manhattan's
fashionable Chelsea district.
Join honorary chairperson Debbie Harry, MCs Chi
Chi Valenti and DJ Johnny Dynell, and guest hosts Beastie Boy Adrock
and Gina Gershon for an evening of music and entertainment with
a purpose: to raise money for animal rescue groups that are working
to save lives and create brighter futures for New York City's homeless
animals. This year's exciting musical line-up includes electronic
artist Moby, Brooklyn indie power trio Earl Greyhound, 80s dance
music group Goonsquad, up-and-coming rocker Lissy Trullie, Brit
rockers Bloody Social, downtown singer/songwriter Jesse Malin, the
March 4th Marching Band, and other artists.
This year's ten beneficiary groups all are members
of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals. They include A
Cause for Paws, Adopt-A-Dog,
Anjellicle
Cats Rescue, Bobbi
and the Strays, Linda's
Feral Cat Assistance, Loving
Touch, Metropolitan
Maltese Rescue, Rawhide
Rescue, Spay
Neuter Intervention Project (SNIP), and Tiny
Treasures Rescue. The ASPCA,
an Alliance founding member, is one of the event sponsors.
"Our goal at Rational Animal is to end euthanasia
of healthy and treatable animals," says Susan Brandt, Rational
Animal's founder. Gimme Shelter is a rockin' way to spread our message,
and we're thrilled that this community of fellow artists and animal
lovers have donated their time and talents to the cause."
A media professional with a passion for animals,
Susan founded Rational Animal in 2002 to increase public awareness
about at-risk animals in New York City — those animals whose
lives and well-being are in jeopardy. Rational Animal creates media
campaigns and special events to advocate primarily for homeless
companion animals. This volunteer organization is driven by a core
of writers, artists, and designers, filmmakers, editors, and event
planners, researchers, and ethologists — all animal lovers
who use their talents to creatively produce media to increase awareness
for the animals that need help.
Time Out New York named the 2006 Gimme Shelter
concert one of the Top Live Shows of the year. This year's concert
promises to be another huge success. The celebration begins at 7:00
p.m. on Monday, October 6. Tickets can be purchased
online.
