Additional Reading for Out of the Cage! Subscribers
If you enjoy reading Out of the Cage!, then
you also might want to subscribe to some of the online and paper
newsletters published by a wide range of organizations that are
working to improve the lives of animals in NYC and beyond. We're
featuring some of these newsletters here, with links that will take
you to the organizations' websites so you can sign up to receive
their newsletters.
The listing that follows, however, is not exhaustive;
it includes only those newsletters of which we are aware, and which
are featured on the Mayor's Alliance website's Other
Newsletters page to encourage visitors to subscribe. If your
organization publishes a newsletter — either online or in
print — and you wish to have a link on the Mayor's Alliance
website, please contact us at info@AnimalAllianceNYC.org.
Some of the Mayor's Alliance member animal
shelters and rescue groups publish newsletters that report
on their activities and programs, their successes, and the animals
in their care awaiting adoption. Among the Alliance Participating
Organizations that offer newsletters are:
American
Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA)
Animal
Care & Control of NYC (AC&C)
Animal
Haven
Bobbi & the Strays
Rawhide
Rescue
Stray
from the Heart
If your interest lies with the plight of feral
cats and you are interested in reading about organizations
that promote the care of feral cat colonies and work to humanely
reduce the feral cat population through trap-neuter-return (TNR)
programs, you might want to subscribe to the newsletters published
by:
Neighborhood
Cats
Slope
Street Cats
Urban
Cat League
If you want to stay abreast of all the news coming
out of Maddie's Fund, the Pet Rescue Foundation
— the organization that provides significant funding to the
Mayor's Alliance and is dedicated to transforming the U.S. into
a no-kill nation — we suggest you read:
Maddie's
Fund: The No-Kill Nation
One of our favorite newsletters is one that promotes
adoption of senior animals —
dogs and cats who for one reason or another find themselves in need
of a new home later in life:
Senior Pets: All They Need is Love
Another good publication is one that promotes adoption
of animals whose guardians died,
leaving behind pets in need of new homes:
2nd
Chance 4 Pets
We've discovered that many of our readers are especially
interested in the welfare of birds,
and we know of two good publications dedicated exclusively to avian
issues:
MAARS:
MAARSianChronicles
Foster
Parrots: The Flying Monkey
If animal health, wellness,
and alternative therapies are topics you're interested
in, we suggest you check out a newsletter dedicated to the practice
of TTouch:
Mindful
Tails: eTails & Paws
These are just some of the publications available
to readers who want to know more.
So round out your reading, and check out some of
these newsletters that interest you.
And if you enjoy reading our newsletter, Out
of the Cage!, be sure to encourage your friends, family and
colleagues to subscribe. Tell them to go to www.AnimalAllianceNYC.org,
and subscribe using the button at the top of the right-hand column.
