In January, Meow Mix made the day for New York City's
dedicated volunteer feral cat caretakers. Four thousand pounds of
Meow Mix Original Choice dry cat food was distributed to 40 volunteers
(100 pounds each) from the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and
Staten Island. All of the volunteers who received the donation are
registered with the NYC
Feral Cat Database, a project initiated in 2006 by the NYC Feral Cat Initiative of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals.
The goal of the NYC Feral Cat Database
is to identify and document the hundreds of feral cat colonies in
the city's five boroughs. The knowledge gained from the database
will be used in part to allocate resources and seek funding for
feral cat programs in the city. Details concerning colony locations
and caretakers are kept confidential by the Feral Cat Initiative.
The
Mayor's Alliance extends sincere appreciation to Meow Mix for its
continued support of Alliance programs. Thanks also have been expressed
by individual caretakers, including Mindy Appleman, from Queens.
"I feed a very large cat colony, and this Meow Mix donation
is going to help me a lot this month! It feels great to know that
Meow Mix supports volunteer work in New York City."
To be eligible for future food and product giveaways,
volunteer feral caretakers must be registered with the NYC Feral
Cat Database. To register your colony online, simply go to www.nycferaldata.org.
