Dog and cat adoptions will be on everyone's mind when Animal Haven SoHo opens this fall in Manhattan!

The new pet adoption center, located at 251 Centre Street, is scheduled to officially open in October. A variety of wonderful dogs and cats will be available to adopters seven days a week — catering to the demanding schedules of many New Yorkers and making the adoption option that much easier for them!

The facility, funded by a Mayor's Alliance grant made possible by the ASPCA, will increase the shelter's capacity to find permanent homes for the animals in its care. (See related article" in the November/December 2006 issue of Out of the Cage!) The adoption center is designed to become a full-service pet resource in the community — a place where people can come to adopt a new family member, and also where they can find dog training and agility classes, grooming, and high-end pet and grooming supplies.

The adoption center will officially open in October 2006.

And there's more — a Build-A-Bear Workshop Reading Room and Lounge! With corporate partner Build-A-Bear Workshop, Animal Haven has created a cozy nook for children and adults where they can sit back and relax on one of the comfortable couches and read a book from the center's humane education library.

"Not only will Animal Haven SoHo compete with puppy mill pet stores, we will be better," says Animal Haven's Executive Director Marcello Forte. "This adoption center is a new concept in sheltering and will hopefully become a model for the rest of the country."

To mark the center's opening, Animal Haven will celebrate 39 years of saving homeless animals by hosting 39 days of dogs and cats at Animal Haven SoHo. Scheduled events include a Chihuahua Party on Saturday, September 23, a Puggle Party on Sunday, September 24, Puppy Play Group on Friday, October 6, and plenty more. For a complete listing of events and details, visit the Animal Haven web site.

"We're very excited about the opening of this revolutionary new adoption center," says Marcello. "Animal Haven SoHo is the only place where owners can indulge their own pets while making a difference in the lives of New York City's homeless animals."
