Ouch! Rising Gas Prices Burden Transport Van Program

Fuel prices are driving up the cost of moving animals out of AC&C shelters and on to Alliance member shelters and rescue groups who find them permanent homes.

The high cost of fuel touches nearly every aspect of our lives. But have you considered that it actually can affect our ability to save lives?

Each month, the Mayor's Alliance transport van program moves approximately 150 animals out of NYC's Animal Care & Control (AC&C) shelters and transports them to other Alliance Participating Organizations (APOs) who will find them new homes. Some trips are short; others are long hauls. But either way, they carry a price tag — and that cost is particularly related to the price of fuel. When fuel prices rise, the cost of these life-saving transports can increase dramatically.

A Channel 7 Eyewitness News This Morning story inspired viewers to help the Alliance cover its increasing transport van fuel costs so we can continue to save animal lives in NYC. You can help by donating to the Mayor's Alliance transport van program.

On June 5, WABC-TV Channel 7 Eyewitness News This Morning featured a story about how the high cost of gasoline places a burden on the Mayor's Alliance's van transport budget and how it can affect our ability to move animals out of AC&C shelters and on to APOs that find them permanent homes. We want to express our appreciation to all those individuals who saw the broadcast and responded by making donations to the Mayor's Alliance to be used for our transport program.

As gas prices continue to fluctuate, we will continue to require a larger fuel budget. Your support of this program is crucial to keeping it running at maximum capacity — and saving as many lives as possible.

If you'd like to be a part of this important effort, either by making a donation to pay for fuel or by enlisting your employer or business to become a sponsor of the program, please contact us at info@AnimalAllianceNYC.org. Click here to make a convenient online donation.
