For many of the cats and dogs transferred from NYC's Animal Care & Control to other Alliance Participating Organizations (APOs) for adoption, Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists (FAVS) has been a critical stop on their journeys to new homes. Here they have received expert medical treatment and care from the facility's talented and compassionate veterinarians, surgeons, and support staff. Treatment for most of these animals was paid for by the Picasso Veterinary Fund of the Mayor's Alliance.

To honor their contribution to the welfare of NYC's animals, FAVS received a letter of commendation from NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg acknowledging their exceptional work. Jane Hoffman, Mayor's Alliance President, presented the award on behalf of the Mayor at the hospital's open house gala dinner and continuing education presentation at New York City's Union Square Ballroom on March 28, 2006.
