Animal Planet Announces Nationwide Search for Hero of the Year

Nominate your favorite hero to the animals in Animal Planet and Fresh Step's "Hero of the Year" contest.

Calling all heroes! If you, or someone you know, is a hero to the animals, listen up!

Animal Planet has announced the launch of its nationwide search for Hero of the Year. Presented in partnership with Fresh Step, part of the Clorox Pet Products Company, the campaign recognizes and celebrates animal lovers across the United States who "invest their time, talent, and spirit" to help animals in their communities.

Anyone who works to improve animal welfare, from veterinarians to a neighbor who helps strays, is eligible for nomination. The winner will receive a trip to Hawaii for two, and Animal Planet will donate $10,000 to his or her favorite animal-related charity.

All entrants (persons submitting entries) and nominees must be legal residents of the United States or the District of Columbia, and 18 years of age or older as of March 15, 2006. Self-nominations are accepted. Official rules and entry forms are available on the Animal Planet website. Deadline for entries is August 27, 2006.
