With Maddie's Help, Alliance Exceeds Expectations
in 2005

Mayor's Alliance/Maddie's Pet
Adoption Festivals played an important role in gaining
public exposure for hundreds of adoptable animals in
2005.

As the first year of the Maddie's
Pet Rescue Project in NYC draws to a close, we are pleased to
report that the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals exceeded its
2005 targets for increased adoptions in NYC. In fact, we exceeded
our first-year goal of 2,800 more adoptions within only 10 months,
thanks to the unwaivering efforts of the Alliance
Participating Organizations (APOs).
Based on adoption reports through October of this
year, the Mayor's Alliance has paid out more than $357,000 in adoption
subsidies to Maddie's Pet Partners, for 3,271 more adoptions to
date than in the same period in 2003. Of the 87 participating organizations
in year one of the Maddie's Adoption Incentive Program, six groups
received subsides of $20,000+, five groups received subsidies of
between $10,000 and $19,999, eight groups received subsidies of
between $5,000 and $9,999, and 60 groups received funding below
$5,000 each. A total of 79 groups received funding through Maddie's
Fund to help increase adoptions and reduce euthaniasia in NYC. (You
can read more about Maddie's Pet Rescue Project in NYC in the Maddie's
Fund Newsletter.)

In 2005, the Mayor's Alliance
van transported over 1,000 animals from AC&C to
other APOs for adoption. |
|
Also in 2005, the Mayor's Alliance transport van
program resulted in more than 1,000 animals being transported from
Animal Care & Control shelters to other APOs for adoption into
permanent homes. And since January 2005, the Picasso
Veterinary Fund and other medical grants helped pay for medical
treatment for more than 560 animals. The Picasso Veterinary Fund
is a special fund administered by the Mayor's Alliance that helps
pay for medical treatment for animals transferred from AC&C
to other APOs.
"We are heartened by the numbers of lives saved
as a result of our efforts this year," says Alliance president
Jane Hoffman. "And we look forward both to tackling the challenges
that lie ahead in 2006, and to seizing the opportunity to save more
lives than ever before."
| About Maddie's Fund
Maddie's Fund, The
Pet Rescue Foundation (www.maddiesfund.org),
is a family foundation funded by PeopleSoft Founder Dave Duffield,
and his wife, Cheryl, to help create a no-kill nation. The
first step is to help develop programs that guarantee loving
homes for all healthy shelter dogs and cats throughout the
country. The next step will be to save the sick and injured
pets in animal shelters nationwide. Maddie's Fund is named
after the family's beloved Miniature Schnauzer who passed
away in 1997.
