Mayor's Alliance/Maddie's Adoption Events

This month the Mayor's Alliance held the season's final 2005 Pet Adoption Festivals in the Park — on October 2 in Manhattan's Central Park and October 22 in Clove Lakes Park on Staten Island. Thus ends an extremely successful 2005 program of park-based events that resulted in dozens and dozens of Little New Yorkers finding their new forever homes.

Another big success took place the weekend of October 8 and 9, when cat-lovers flocked to the Adopt-A-Cat Days event that took place in tandem with the CFA-Iam's Cat Championship New York at Madison Square Garden. Close to 100 cats found new homes at the event, and many more applications were taken.

If you missed the Adopt-A-Cat event, join us on December 3 in the auditorium at St. Paul the Apostle Church at Columbus Avenue and 60th Street in Manhattan, where you'll have another opportunity to meet dozens of wonderful cats awaiting adoption!

New Trails to Tails Maps Released

An updated edition of the popular Trails to Tails map was launched at Rational Animal's "Animal Rescue NYC Celebration" on September 28 at The Cutting Room in Manhattan's Flatiron District. The new animal adoption locator map, published by Rational Animal, shows adoption locations for Alliance Participating Organizations and other adoption and pet-related information throughout NYC's five boroughs. If you'd like to receive a copy of the new Trails to Tails, e-mail the Mayor's Alliance at info@AnimalAllianceNYC.org or Rational Animal at info@rational-animal.org.

Best New York Tail Contest Benefits the Mayor's Alliance

Thanks go to New York Tails publisher Diane West for donating a portion of the proceeds from the magazine's 2005 Best New York Tail Contest to the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals. The contest, for which the winner was announced at Rational Animal's "Animal Rescue NYC Celebration," (see related bit above), celebrates New Yorkers and their pets. About Maddie's Fund

Maddie's Fund, The Pet Rescue Foundation (www.maddiesfund.org), is a family foundation funded by PeopleSoft Founder Dave Duffield, and his wife, Cheryl, to help create a no-kill nation. The first step is to help develop programs that guarantee loving homes for all healthy shelter dogs and cats throughout the country. The next step will be to save the sick and injured pets in animal shelters nationwide. Maddie's Fund is named after the family's beloved Miniature Schnauzer who passed away in 1997.
