Message from the President
New Features in Out of the Cage!
by Jane Hoffman, President, Mayor's Alliance for
NYC's Animals
I first want to thank you for all the words of
praise and encouragement we received from our readers following
the launch last month of Out
of the Cage! We
are extremely happy and gratified that so many of you have taken
such a strong interest
in the newsletter, and in the Alliance's programs. Your compliments,
comments, and suggestions are truly appreciated. We want to continue
to bring to our readers and supporters an up-close view of
the Mayor's Alliance, and especially of
the strides being made by our participating
organizations toward
the goal of transforming our city into a no-kill city.
To that
end, we are adding a new feature to the
newsletter this month that highlights the important contributions
being made by the member
organizations of the New
York Breed Rescue Network (NYBRN). More than 25 breed rescue
groups — all of which
are members of the Mayor's Alliance — comprise this special
coalition within the Alliance. Each of these groups has chosen
to concentrate
on the placement of purebred (or nearly pure) dogs and cats.
These breed-specific rescue organizations provide a valuable
resource to potential adopters who prefer the companionship of
specific breeds, and a sensible alternative to pet shops, puppy
mills, and irresponsible breeders.
At your suggestion, we also have added a new
feature that emphasizes
the rewards of volunteering. Here you'll have the opportunity
to read about volunteers — in stories
written by volunteers — who
have chosen to share their remarkable, and sometimes life-altering,
experiences with us.
And finally, this month we'll introduce you to
an amazing organization called Rational
Animal. This all-volunteer team of
graphic designers, writers, marketing strategists, and media experts
are the creative force behind some of the publicity and media exposure
enjoyed by the Mayor's Alliance and its participating organizations
over the past year-and-a-half.
We hope you enjoy this issue of Out of the
Cage! We encourage
you to share it with your friends and fellow animal-lovers. And
we continue to invite your comments and suggestions on the newsletter
by contacting us at info@AnimalAllianceNYC.org.
All the best,
Jane
