Support the runners along the race route.
Grab your friends, neighbors, family — everyone you
know who cares about animals — and stake out a spot
along the marathon route. Check out the ING New York City
Marathon website's "Guide
for Spectators" for locations, times, and other
information useful in planning your activities.
If you'd like to join other ASPCA Team
supporters along the marathon route, following are ESTIMATED times
and locations for Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. Please
check back here for time confirmations before the race! Brooklyn: BARC
Shelter is organizing a spectator cheering section at the
corner of North 1st Street and Bedford Avenue, up the street
from BARC Shelter. (Take the L train to the Bedford/North
7th Street stop.) Runners are expected to begin reaching
this location by 11:30 a.m.
Queens: Animal
Haven is staking out a location at Mile 14 — Vernon
Boulevard and 45th Avenue, Queens. (Take the G train to
Court Square and
23rd Street.) The folks from Animal Haven will be there
at approximately 12:00 noon.
Manhattan: Alliance spectators will meet at Mile 23.5 —
Fifth Avenue at 90th Street, at 1:00 pm. The closest subway
stop (4, 5, and 6 trains) is 86th Street and Lexington Avenue.
Whenever
runners wearing ASPCA tank tops
pass by, whoop and holler for them, and let everyone around
you know why you're cheering. A small hand-held poster proclaiming "ASPCA
Marathoners Support NYC's Homeless Animals!" can spark
additional conversations and support for the runners. Remember,
they're pounding the pavement for NYC's animals, and they
deserve our encouragement! |
