Mayor's Alliance to Benefit from Sales of New Book

Author Don Loprieno is using his talent to help make the world a better place for animals. And part of his contribution is sharing his success with the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals by donating to the Mayor's Alliance proceeds from his new book — The Stony Point Whisker Club: My Travels with Cato from the Hudson Valley to Midcoast Maine.

You'll have the opportunity to meet Don and purchase a signed copy of his book at the Mayor's Alliance's highly anticipated annual Adopt-A-Cat, which this year will be held at the Javits Center at 655 West 34th Street in Manhattan on Saturday and Sunday, October 17–18.

When most books are written, national publishers distribute them and the author receives only a small percentage of the profit. "There's nothing wrong with this arrangement," says Don, "and that's how my first book was published. But when I wrote my second book, I wanted more of the profits to help animals, especially cats."

So Don, who lived in New York but now resides in Bristol, Maine, decided to publish his next book himself. The Stony Point Whisker Club is a story that operates on several levels. It's told as it happened over a span of some fifteen years, and recounts a special relationship with Cato, a very special feline. "Many people have shared their lives with animals and know how rewarding that can be," Don says, "but for me, it was something new."

A pivotal event in the story is a callous act of indifference, which went unrecognized as such at the time. It proved to be the source of profound regret, but also led to a lifelong bond of affection and friendship between human and cat, underscoring the fact that those who love animals are not always born that way; they are sometimes created in the crucible of experience.

Cato's story is told with humor, insight, and reflection, and will touch your heart. And it isn't just for those who appreciate animals or feel kindly toward them. It is a testament to the true power and nature of love, and will appeal to anyone who has ever felt that unique joy.

"I'm pleased to support the important work of the Mayor's Alliance, especially during these difficult economic times," Don says, "and l encourage others to do what they can: make a donation, adopt a cat into you home, have your pets spayed and neutered to reduce the number of unwanted animals, and in general, care for the creatures who share the world with us."
