Alley Cat Allies & Local Organizations Host a Feline Frenzy!

A free spay/neuter drive for outdoor cats in the greater New Orleans area

Feline FrenzyNew Orleans, LA – Tuesday, May 2, 2006 – Alley Cat Allies is joining forces with local animal welfare groups, veterinary clinics, and individual caregivers to sponsor a FREE spay/neuter drive throughout the Greater New Orleans area May 8–21, 2006.

Dubbed "The Feline Frenzy," the spay/neuter drive aims to neuter 1,000 feral or outdoor cats in various New Orleans locations. The goal is to prevent the birth of kittens in neighborhoods across the city through "Trap-Neuter-Return," a non-lethal method of controlling feral cat populations.

The success of the grassroots effort will require help from the public and stray cat feeders. While Alley Cat Allies will supply free spay/neuter and vaccination services through local veterinarians, community volunteers will trap, transport, and manage the ongoing care of the cats.

"The Feline Frenzy will dramatically reduce the number of kittens born on the street, improve the lives of outdoor cats, and will, ultimately, reduce the number of cats who end up in our local animal shelters.” said Lynn Chiche, President of SpayMart, a non-profit organization that has been doing Trap-Neuter-Return in New Orleans for over ten years.

For more information, to volunteer, or for help getting cats fixed call Alley Cat Allies at (601) 749-5084 or e-mail: nolaalleycat@yahoo.com.

"Together, we will make a difference in our communities!" said Diane Blankenburg of Alley Cat Allies.
