Celebrate Animal Rescue NYC 2005:
September 28, 7–9pm, The Cutting Room

New York, NY – September 21, 2005 – Rational Animal, the non-profit media organization working with the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals to increase awareness about at-risk animals, has teamed with Leashes and Lovers to present the first annual Animal Rescue NYC Celebration.

This event celebrates New Yorkers' efforts to reach the "no-kill" goal by ending euthanasia of healthy and treatable animals in NYC city shelters by 2015.

"This year Mayor Bloomberg announced NYC's goal of ending euthanasia of homeless animals and the Animal Rescue NYC Celebration is a show support for the tremendous efforts made by all New Yorkers towards this goal." says Susan Brandt, Executive Director, Rational Animal.

The event will be held at the Cutting Room, the music venue owned by Sex and the City's Chris Noth, at 19 West 24th Street, New York City.

Live entertainment includes the "Trails to Tails" Runway Show featuring adoptable dogs as they represent some of the dozens of animal rescues located throughout the five boroughs: Animal Haven, AC&C, A Cause for Paws, ASPCA, BARC, Mighty Mutts, Bobbi and the Strays, Earth Angels, Humane Society of NY, and Stray from the Heart. Dogs will wear handmade knitwear from Oliver's Duds. Adoptable cats will make a virtual appearance via video. The Show will be narrated with music performed by Murray Weinstock, singer/composer of Tails of the City, the CD featuring songs from a dog's point of view. To end this evening of cheer, the Lonesome Prairie Dogs, famous for their annual "Hank-O-Rama," will bring their high-energy rockabilly music to the stage.

A donation of $25 per person includes complimentary Veuve Clicquot champagne and petit fours served by students of The French Culinary Institute.

The celebration includes appearances by the winners for New York Tails magazine's "Best New York Tail" contest, a raffle and silent auction that includes custom-made knitwear, certificates for Greenwich Village gourmet delights, luxurious goodie bags including products from Ecco Bella, Newman's Own, Kettle Corn, and a copy of Trails to Tails 2005, NYC's first animal adoption map featuring Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals organizations, dog runs, breed rescue organizations, and low-cost spay/neuter programs.
