Out of the Cage!

October 2010

October has been a big month for animal events in New York City, and you'll read about some of them in this issue of Out of the Cage! You'll also read about some exciting upcoming events, including our big Holiday Pet Adoption Event in December.

As we move toward the holiday season, you might find yourself running around more, caught up in the activities that traditionally accompany the holidays — meeting friends, shopping, parties, whatever. Here's a suggestion: Don't forget that the holidays are oftentimes best enjoyed with your family, and that includes your four-legged family members, too. So often we can become distracted by the bustle of activity, the lists of things to do. Bear in mind that you are everything to your pets — they depend on you for their security and their sense of being loved. Make sure you don't forget about their need for love and attention, even when your schedule gets to be hectic. As a matter of fact, when life starts to become chaotic, that's probably the best time for you to slow down and give your pet some extra attention.

If you have extra attention to spare, adopt from a shelter or rescue group. There are so many dogs and cats awaiting adoption who would be so grateful to call your home their own. Visit an Animal Care & Control (AC&C) shelter, or another shelter or rescue group. Come out to one of the many adoption events listed on our website. And if you can't adopt, then support AC&C or another rescue organization with a monetary donation, or by volunteering. There are so many ways you can help the animals.

I hope you enjoy our newsletter. If you have comments, we'd like to hear them; simply e-mail us at enews@AnimalAllianceNYC.org.
