Out of the Cage!

September 2010

Fall is definitely in the air. But as the weather cools, we expect to see adoptions heat up. Case in point: Our second Adoptapalooza in Washington Square Park on September 12 was a hit, especially for the 75-plus cats and dogs who found new homes at, or immediately following, the event. We're grateful to all who participated — the rescue groups and shelters, our service-related partners, our event sponsor, PEOPLE Pets, our event volunteers, and especially to all those New Yorkers who showed up to give a wonderful dog or cat a new home.

With New York Week for the Animals just around the corner, we're looking forward to plenty of events throughout the city within the next few weeks. Among them, read about Fall Fiesta coming up this weekend in Central Park, and Pet Bull Palooza coming to Crotona Park in the Bronx on October 23. For a full listing of events, including our groups appearing on North Shore Animal League America mobile adoption units throughout the month, be sure to visit our events calendar regularly.

On October 15, I'm looking forward to joining many of my colleagues at the Best Friends No More Homeless Pets Conference in Las Vegas, where I'll have the opportunity not only to present a workshop and participate on a panel, but also to reconnect with old friends from around the country who share our common goal of saving lives. As we move along on our journey, it's important that we remember that none of us is in this effort alone. We're all a part of a greater effort, and despite our differences in circumstances, resources, philosophies, and strengths, our success depends greatly on our ability to cooperate and collaborate.

And speaking of Las Vegas, I think you'll enjoy our article in this issue about John and his amazing journey from Las Vegas to…Las Vegas!

We hope you enjoy this issue of Out of the Cage! Please feel free to share your thoughts and comments with us at enews@AnimalAllianceNYC.org.
