Fall Fiesta on October 2 Kicks Off New York Week for the Animals

October is a big month for animals, and the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals is celebrating in a big way! It all begins on Saturday, October 2, when the Mayor's Alliance and the ASPCA stage their second annual Fall Fiesta in Central Park to kick off Animal World USA's New York Week for the Animals — a state-wide celebration to commemorate the importance of animals in our lives, and recognize the many organizations and dedicated people who work tirelessly each day to support our furry friends.

Fall Fiesta, set on the north end of Central Park at 110th Street and Malcolm X Boulevard, will offer pet owners access to free services for dogs and cats, including spay/neuter surgeries by the ASPCA (beginning at 7:30 a.m.) and microchipping by the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals (9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.).

New Yorkers looking to adopt a furry new family member can meet wonderful cats and dogs available for adoption on the ASPCA's mobile adoption van. And those seeking information about pet-related issues can speak with a trainer and a groomer. Tavi & Friends, an Alliance participating organization, will be on hand to demonstrate TTouch massage and other wellness therapies for pets. Susan Kaufman from the Animal Relief Fund will provide information about pet food availability at local food pantries. And, in true fiesta fashion, the event will feature music by a DJ, giveaways, and great photo ops for kids with the six-foot Maddie's Fund Miniature Schnauzer mascot.

Coming later next month, on Saturday, October 23 (National Pit Bull Awareness Day), the Mayor's Alliance will team up with Best Friends Animal Society and the ASPCA for Pet Bull Palooza in Crotona Park in the Bronx. The event — a celebration of Pit Bull Terriers and other short-haired muscular mutts and their families — will feature free spay/neuter surgeries provided by the ASPCA, a Mayor's Alliance free microchipping clinic, free gifts, and much, much more. Details, including start times for the clinics, are being developed, so please check back on our website's events calendar.
