The Big Apple Goes Orange for ASPCA Day

On April 10, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), a founding member and important supporter of the Mayor's Alliance, celebrated its 142nd year of service to, and protection of, animals. Here in NYC and beyond, animal enthusiasts wore orange, the ASPCA's signature color, to show support for the organization whose name is synonymous with caring for animals.

ASPCA supporters and animal lovers turned out in force in Union Square to celebrate the day. Festivities included the unveiling of a brand-new drinking fountain for dogs, while event-goers strolled among the information tents, chatted with the Humane Law Enforcement officers familiar to many TV viewers from Animal Planet, paused for a photo at the pet photo booth, or stopped to meet some of the wonderful dogs and cats available for adoption from the ASPCA.

Later, the X-Brothers rocked the night away, until the evening drew to a dramatic close when New Yorkers watched the Empire State Building light up orange in honor of the ASPCA. If you weren't able to be there, check out the ASPCA's photos of what you missed.

The Mayor's Alliance salutes the ASPCA, and is grateful for its support of the Alliance's efforts in New York City.
