Picasso Veterinary Fund in Action: Turtle and Friends Await Adoption

Turtle was just a kitten — and pregnant — when someone dropped her off at NYC Veterinary Specialists. NYCVS is one of the veterinary practices that treats many Mayor's Alliance animals whose medical care is paid for by the Picasso Veterinary Fund. The young gray tiger tabby soon delivered one dead kitten. A surgeon at the hospital removed another, unborn, dead kitten from her young body.

Turtle has recovered from her traumatic experience, but she should never have had to go through such an ordeal; she should have been spayed before she had a chance to become pregnant.

But thankfully for Turtle, and for many cats and dogs that require medical care before being placed in a loving home by an Alliance Participating Organization (APO), the Picasso Veterinary Fund is saving lives that once would not have been saved. The fund allows the Mayor's Alliance to pay for the care and treatment of these courageous animals, and prepare them for adoption.

Murray Hill Pet Hospital, another veterinary practice that partners with the Mayor's Alliance to treat Picasso animals, currently is caring for quite a few Picasso cats that are ready for adoption. Among them are Tony, a black and white cat from Animal Care & Control (AC&C); Nicky, a one-eyed, yellow and white male rescued by an NYPD officer; and Abby, a young calico found by a Mayor's Alliance staff member on a street in Harlem. These, and many more wonderful cats, are patiently awaiting adoption at Murray Hill Pet Hospital and The Wagging Tail (see related article).

These cats owe their lives to the Picasso Veterinary Fund — and the individuals who give generously to the fund. Because it is supported strictly by private donations, we depend upon people like you to provide the support that will continue to save lives.
