Broadway Barks 9! Brings Adoptions and Donations to Mayor's Alliance Members
Broadway Barks! — the annual show-stopping pet adoption and fundraising event in Shubert Alley, hosted by legendary stars Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore — turned a beautiful summer day into magic again this year, when the ninth annual event took place on Saturday, July 14.
The popular event drew thousands of onlookers — some to see the dozens of Broadway stars who participated in the program (plus a special appearance by Annemarie Lucas, ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement Officer of TV's Animal Precinct fame), and many to meet the wonderful cats and dogs brought in by 24 different shelters and rescue groups that were invited to participate. Cast members from Broadway shows introduced the dogs for adoption to the crowd, and plenty of the animals found new homes that day.
This year, for the first time, groups that brought cats for adoption introduced them to admirers in the comfort of air-conditioned vans parked on West 44th Street — just steps away from the throngs that crowded Shubert Alley, where the Broadway Barks! auction raised thousands of dollars for the participating rescue organizations.
The Mayor's Alliance extends its sincere thanks to Broadway Barks! founders Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore for their continued support of the NYC animal rescue efforts and the Picasso Veterinary Fund of the Mayor's Alliance; to the ASPCA — the official sponsor of Broadway Barks 9! — for its generous financial support; and to shelters and rescue groups that each year are saving thousands of lives in New York City.
