Davnet-Finbar Dog Fund Honors Mayor's Alliance Supporter

Anyone who met Davnet Skuse knew right away what a warm and generous person she was. And they quickly discovered how much she loved animals — starting with Finbar, her beloved companion Bichon Frise. Finbar was the light of Davnet's life, and she, the center of his. Davnet's compassion for animals and the relationship she shared with Finbar embodied the dedication and compassion we all aspire to show those we love.

Davnet's lifetime devotion to animals led her to pursue a degree in Animal Science from Colorado State University. Upon graduating, she dedicated her time to caring for animals.

Davnet's many friends included those she worked with at Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists (FAVS), a specialty veterinary hospital in Chelsea. Davnet always had a smile for everyone, and especially for the dogs and cats that the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals brought in for treatment at the hospital. It was there that Davnet became acquainted with the Mayor's Alliance and its Picasso Veterinary Fund, which provides financial assistance to help pay for extraordinary medical treatment for homeless animals taken in by Animal Care & Control (AC&C) and transferred to other Alliance member groups for adoption.

Then there were Davnet's friends at Mark Garrison Salon, the chic Upper East Side hair design studio run by a celebrated hair stylist and beauty expert who himself is also an animal enthusiast. While working at the salon, Davnet introduced Mark to the Mayor's Alliance, setting the stage for the salon to host Animal Fair's 2005 Yappy Hour, a fundraiser for the Mayor's Alliance.

Davnet's death in 2006 saddened her many friends and associates. But Davnet's joy for life and extreme love of Finbar and all four-legged creatures lives on. The Davnet-Finbar Dog Fund was created by the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals in Davnet's memory, and that of her beloved Finbar. We understand from her family that nothing would have given Davnet greater joy than to know that her work is being continued through the generous donations of others.

Contributions to the Davnet-Finbar Dog Fund benefit the Picasso Veterinary Fund of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals.
