Volunteer for NYC's Animals

We're delighted that you want to volunteer to help NYC's homeless animals. There are many volunteer opportunities available to you, and we want to help you find a match that provides you with a satisfying volunteer experience.

If you want to volunteer directly with animals, or wish to lend your skills to an organization that provides direct care to animals, we suggest you contact an Alliance Participating Organization (animal shelter or rescue group) directly. For a current list of Alliance Participating Organizations, click here.

If you're interested in volunteering to assist at Mayor's Alliance events, you'll likely be invited to join us for pet adoption and other events, tabling activities, and fundraising events. You'll be asked in Section 2 to select the type of event(s) you prefer. Please be aware that most of our events take place between April and November.

If you have special skills, training, or experience that you feel might be valuable in your volunteer work, please describe them in Section 4.

If you are interested in locating group volunteer activities, such as a student or professional group, please e-mail us at info@AnimalAllianceNYC.org and describe your organization and what you are looking for, and someone will contact you.

If you are interested in a project that you can work on and complete on your own time and at your own pace, click here to learn about making "cage comforters" — small, simple blankets placed in cages at shelters to comfort dogs and cats. Note: You do not need to complete the below Volunteer Application in order to make cage comforters, but please complete the application if you are interested in any other volunteer opportunity.
