How to Become an Alliance Participating Organization (APO)
Thank you for your interest in becoming a Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals (the Alliance) Participating Organization (APO). This is a multi-step process. Please review the following carefully.
To become an APO, you must demonstrate that you have an active adoption program and that your organization takes (accepts transfer of) dogs and cats from Animal Care & Control of NYC (AC&C) and/or NYC residents.
The Alliance is primarily a New York City project and works closely with AC&C. However, please be aware that AC&C's New Hope Department and the Alliance are two separate not-for-profit organizations.
To be eligible to accept transfer of cats and dogs from AC&C you must be an approved AC&C New Hope Partner. If you are not a New Hope Partner, please contact Jessica Van Brunt, New Hope Specialist, at (212) 722-4939 x225 or jvanbrunt@nycacc.org, or visit the AC&C website.
Once you have been an AC&C New Hope Partner in good standing for at least six months your application to become an APO will be eligible to be reviewed.
Process for Joining the Alliance
1) |
Fill out and submit an APO Application. You may do this at the same time you submit an application to become a New Hope Partner. |
2) |
Submit a copy of your letter from the IRS confirming your organization has been granted 501(c)(3) status. |
3) |
Submit confirmation that you are registered with the New York State Charities Bureau and have a registration number. |
4) |
Provide references (these may be the same references submitted in your New Hope Partner application). |
5) |
Provide a copy of your New Hope Partner application along with the e-mail received from the New Hope Department confirming your approval as a New Hope Partner. |
6) |
Schedule a site visit to your location with Melissa Donaldson of the Alliance by e-mailing her at melissa@AnimalAllianceNYC.org. |
Please note:
• |
Approval as a New Hope Partner does not ensure your approval as an APO. |
• |
Applications to become an APO are reviewed twice yearly in June and December. |
