Through Tri-State Basset Hound Rescue, Basset Hounds in need of new homes are taken in by breed fanciers, housed, given any needed veterinary care (including spay/neuter), and adopted out to new homes. Most of the dogs they place are turned over to them by animal shelters throughout New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, and New York because of overcrowded conditions. Some of the dogs have been surrendered by their previous owners. Tri-State Basset Hound Rescue is a member of the New York Breed Rescue Network of the Mayor's Alliance.
